Dandelion

Taraxacum officinale

Welcome back Spring! Even in all Her radiance and beauty, I know some people cringe at the thought of growing dandelions in their yards. But, just like all things, they too add purpose and meaning to our lives! So, try embracing your dandelions and reconnecting with our natural Life Cycles.

I have always said that dandelions emerge in the Spring for a reason. Over the years I learned they help us Detox from the long, sometimes arduous, Winters. Typically, and I will admit, I use old school remedies such as Brandy or Honey

Whiskey during those cold Winter months to offer myself relief from coughing and congestion, rather than using over the counter medicines. When Spring arrives and the

Dandelions emerge, I take some time to Detox. So, one thing I do is to add Dandelions to my diet. Try Dandelion tea, or add the young leaves to your salad! Dandelions are known to cleanse the liver

and flush the kidneys, which is a great way to start your Spring. Clean "your house" first.

You can use the root, the leaves, and the flowers to offer yourself and your loved ones a little all natural healing. The young leaves in early Spring are best to consume in your salads, as they are not as bitter. So, try adding those tender leaves and the flower heads to your fresh salads! The root, when dried, can be made into a Dandelion tea, or used as a coffee substitute. And, if you are feeling especially adventurous, try your hand at some homemade Dandelion wine or jelly.

As a balm or salve, Dandelions can offer relief from a variety of skin conditions. It is said that these brilliant golden rays can help with eczema and psoriasis irritations. Sacra Natura LLC will be offering a Healing Dandelion Balm this year, so Follow Us for more details!

Please also keep in mind that our lovely Dandelions are a large first food source for our bees. Our bees consume a lot of their resources and energy to survive the Winter, and the Dandelions are a ray of hope and sunshine for these girls when they begin foraging for food. I feel it is my responsibility as an aware Being to ensure they, and all other creatures, have their natural food source available. For me, and hopefully for you as well, this is a reminder to live more simply and step more lightly upon our Earth, so that She may continue to offer abundance to future generations.

Thank you for sharing this moment with me!
